Our approach to learning and teaching, also known as 'pedagogy', is based on our key principles and values.

Authenticity

We believe the best teaching stems from the expertise of experience. All our writers and tutors are experienced practitioners. All our courses and learning materials include the perspective of service users and those with life experience of the issues addressed. This brings the authenticity of passionate engagement, as well as theoretical rigour.

Creativity

Learning is an act of creation, harnessing the wisdom and experience of the tutors and learners. It’s a fusion of ideas, research, techniques, theories and practice. We use creative approaches and active learning techniques to ensure learning is effective and fun.

Collaboration

We believe everyone’s contribution is important and the best learning happens through collaboration with others. We use email, course forums, podcasts and social media to create an e-learning community, where you can interact with tutors and other learners in real time and your own time.

Participation

Our training days are highly participatory, based on active learning techniques and practical application as well as essential law, policy and research. We use quizzes, presentations, multimedia and gamification to ensure e-learning is engaging too.

Change

We believe that learning itself is an act of change and our aim is to be a catalyst for social change in all we do. We design learning opportunities to be inspiring, emancipatory and empowering. We aim to enable you to change, whether you are someone seeking to reshape your own life, a professional wanting to improve your practice or an activist engaged in transforming your community. All our modules include a focus on practice and continuing support to apply your learning.
